Year of  Herbs

Year of Herbs is a 12 month program, conducted January through December (You can start at what ever month works best for you), for those who desire an in-depth herbal program. This program offers a unique opportunity to totally immerse yourself in the world of wild plants and herbs. By the end of the program you will be able to identify and know how to use well over 36 different herbs.

This is a beginning level program which assumes the student has had little or no formal study of herbs, and will give you the foundation you need as a budding herbalist or home medicine maker. The cost of this class is $25.00 per month.

One thing to note, is that each class covers a complete, yet separate topic on herbs and that it is not necessary to attend all classes if a particular aspect interests you more than another. Whether you sign up for each class or come only to the ones you decide to participate, you will not feel lost in the subject.

The program is a unique experience, bringing together professional instruction in an informal setting which provides a relaxing environment in which to learn.  Our classes are informal and relaxed, and our small class size allows accessibility to our instructors both during lessons and after class. Only registered students may attend class. We are an adult learning center. Participants must be at least 17 years old.

The program was designed by Deb Burton and Jan DeFerbrache, both practicing herbalists and the class is taught by Amanda Wyss, Carla Resler and Ruth Sutherlin. The approach is towards a more holistic education.  Students learn about the medicinal plants, the wildlife that is around us and other healing modalities that promote health.

Here’s what you’ll learn over the course of the 12-month study:
How to approach herbal medicine so it doesn’t feel overwhelming and impossible to learn.

What are the most poisonous plants and how to learn which ones grow near you
